Welcome to CirKids, our youth training and performance program! Starting as young as 3 years old, students progress through age-appropriate levels, culminating in our 10-month program from September to June. Our expert coaches create a fun and supportive environment, tailoring classes to each student’s skill level.
• Younger children explore the fundamentals of movement and play through circus arts.
• Older students develop group acts, theatre basics, and presentation skills.
Our CirKids Sessional classes, for ages 8 to 16, offers something for all interests and levels. These 1-hour Sessional classes focus on one circus discipline. Each session is 6 weeks long unless otherwise specified.
To participate in CircusWest classes, all participants are required to:
• Purchase a CircusWest Yearly Family Membership at $16 (valid September 1st – August 31st)
• Purchase Yearly Student Insurance at $42 (valid September 1st – August 31st)
• Read and sign the CircusWest Acknowledgement of Risk and Student Code of Conduct (parent or guardian signature required for minors)

For children who are ready to participate independently and follow directions. Focuses on basic circus skills and circus safety in a fun environment. Children will be exposed to dominant movement patterns used in circus and coordination challenges, as well as balance, basic shapes, and body positions used in circus acrobatics. *** Please note, students must be 3 years old and toilet trained in order to participate.
Focuses on fun, skill development, social interaction and large movement activities. Children learn the basics of juggling, unicycle, tumbling, trampoline, silks, and trapeze. This class focuses on play with an introduction to theatre skill basics.
Children learn juggling, unicycle, silks and trapeze, tumbling, and trampoline and take part in balancing activities. This class focuses on play, presentation skills, theatre skills, and movement basics.
Teaches all the basics of a traditional circus program: acrobatics, aerials, balance activities, trampoline, object manipulation, and unicycling. Focuses on group act development as well as basic theatre and presentation skills. In addition to the monthly tuition, there is a monthly $20 volunteer deposit.
This class is for students interested in more intense training: please note this class occurs bi-weekly with one weekday class and one weekend class (Monday OR Wednesday, and Saturday OR Sunday). Students continue training in all elements of traditional circus with an emphasis on improving skills and technique. Presentation skills, group act development, and movement and theatre skills will be addressed.

This comprehensive intermediate circus skills development program will focus on group act development and performance/stage skills. Participants will engage in small performances on campus and at community events. Students will perform as featured pre-show entertainment at the annual show.
Expectations: Commitment is particularly important in Ensemble as this is when training becomes more focused as coaches prepare students for the performance program. Students must be proficient in at least 2 of the main 7 disciplines covered at this level in order to be invited into the program. Disciplines include acrobatics, trampoline, hand-to-hand/handstands, aerials, dance, unicycle, and juggling/object manipulation.

Students must register for both Ensemble and Ensemble II.
For students interested in more intense training and/or for those wishing to prepare for the Performance Troupe. Students will be able to start selecting their area(s) of specialization, on top of getting all-around training in general circus arts. This class also offers physical preparation in strength, flexibility, and movement for further training. A variety of performance opportunities will be available, including supporting the Performance Troupe in the annual show.
Expectations: Commitment is necessary for this program. Students must be proficient in at least 2 of the 7 main disciplines covered at this level in order to be invited to audition. These disciplines are tumbling, trampoline, hand-to-hand/handstands, aerials, dance, unicycle, and juggling/object manipulation.

Students must register for both Apprentice and Apprentice II.
Students continue their overall training while pursuing a specialty. Presentation skills, group and individual act development, dance, movement, and theatre will be taught. Commitment is essential as students will entertain throughout the year at festivals and community events, ending with the annual May show. Students will have to audition each year to keep their place in the class, annually reaffirming their commitment to the high time and energy demands of Performance.
Expectations: Commitment is necessary for this program. Students must be proficient in at least 3 of the 7 main disciplines covered at this level in order to be invited to audition. These disciplines are tumbling, trampoline, hand-to-hand/handstands, aerials, dance, unicycle, juggling/object manipulation.

Students must register for both Performance Troupe and Performance Troupe II.
Level I is an introductory class for youth to learn acrobatic skills in balance, tumbling, contortion, mini trampoline and double mini tramp. Specific emphasis on body alignment, landings and technique of ballistic and non-ballistic tumbling skills will be explored. No experience necessary for this level but a desire to learn is a must.
Level II is aimed for youth who have considerable acrobatics/tumbling/gymnastics training and are able to successfully do a round-off back handspring. Students will learn power tumbling skills and advanced to flipping and twisting technique on Tumble Track, and Double Mini Tramp. Students must have prior training acrobatic/tumbling experience to take this class. Students should be able to hold and willing to train to improve strength and flexibility between classes.

This is an introductory class to learn the fundamentals of aerial hoop and trapeze, and to gain to confidence in the air. Students will be challenged to develop strength and flexibility on aerial apparatus while building smooth transitions between basic aerial skills and manoeuvres.
Level I is an introductory class where youth will learn climbing, wrapping and aerial silk basics in a safe and fun setting. Students will be encouraged to work on developing strength and flexibility between sessions to aid in skill acquisition. Students do not need to have prior experience.
Level II is designed for youth who have previous tissue experience and can climb to the top of the tissue at least twice for warm up, achieve lace locks, invert without cheating, and can link more than 3 skills together. Students will learn more advanced wraps, forms and drops in this class and will be challenged to link skills together to develop a routine.
This class is designed for youth to learn trampoline fundamentals progressing to more advanced skills. Students will learn jumping technique, foundational skills, and develop progressions necessary for flipping. Classes will be geared to each student's level with emphasis on body alignment, spatial awareness and proper aerial technique. Class is open to beginner to intermediate level participants.
